commends the superannuation of Super intendents JNicholsouand Hare, thereducv lion of Sadlier, and the disrating of Ward and Steele. The dismissal of the Constables who were at riherret's hut at the time of the capture of the Kellys, and of the teacher and Wallace is also recom mended. Supt. Hare is severely condemned as a disturbing element in the force. A minority of commissioners dissent from the recommendations of. the repoit. . Tho Italian warship Europa, which \ went aground on Thursday Island on the Queensland Coast, and got safely off', has arrived at Batavia. It now transpires that Thorpe, late teller of the Bank of Victoria, who was arrested yesterday charged with embezzling £2500, was recently suspended, and since that time returned the whole amount (£2500) in batches to his successor. He asserts that although he had used the money he did not intend to steal it.
