OUR MINES.
MOANATAIARI.
The manager reports as follows for last week :—" During the past fortnight, no opportunity has been lost in trying to get out as much gold as possible, and from the sheet it will be seen that the largest portion of this has come from No. 3 reef above 132 ft. level. The stuff from this stope has fallen off considerably this week, or we should have had more gold. The stopes have now broken into old workings in a winze sunk down 14 feet below the 70 feet level. Morning Star : A rise has been put through from back of stope to surface, and a leader 10 inches thick, but of low grade. After to-day my services in connection with the company will cease, I have had charge of your mine for the past seven years, ending last May, and during that time vigorous operations have been carried on. The following figures will speak for themselves: —93,978 tons of quartz have been treated, yielding 109,0380z5. The dividends paid therefrom amount to £95,981, in addition to cleaning off the heavy mill stone of debt which formerly [oppressed the company, and which 1 trust will not occur again. At present time the concern will require careful nursing and skilful management. During last fortnight we have crushed 194 tons of stuff, including 1501bs of picked stone, for a yield of 187ozs retorted gold.— Robert Comes."
