Latest Coromandel Mining.
Bl,aokmore's,—The large landslip has a good deal retarded operations in this mine, but the men are all in full swing repairing damages, and in a short time they will he in a better position than ever. A large paddock is now being made, out out of the solid, and this is to be connected with a level now going in on the big reef a short distance below the open cutting. The drive in question is being taken in on the footwall of the reef. None of it has been taken down, except about a hatful as a test, and which gave a splendid show of gold. In making a paddock at the mouth of this tunnel a nice branch leader was uncovered, and, sotne very fair picked stone taken from it. The tramway from this mine to the battery is being pushed ahead, and a few weeks wijl gep in complete, Tiifi Stab.—Driving both ways is continued qn the reef in the north, and the country is hard and the leader is somewhat pinched up. In the lower level there is a fine reef aud a little gold showing.
Home Rule —The low level is now about far enough in to be under the winze. The reef has taken a bend to the left similar to its position in the level above, and jt is in this bend where the richest gold has been got. The winze has carried gold down all the way, and the last taken out being decjdedly coarser than a.ny gpt before. The country is excellent for working, and no doubt.in a very short time we shall hear great things of this mine.
Tiebnan's.—The manager reports about 401bs of picked stone on hand for the last few days' work.. In the west the reef ba.s elevated considerably, feeing iiqw neay the fqof of the tunnel. Jt is also smaller, ayeragipg about a foot thick. The stone looks as well as ever, &n.d the country is good working ground. It is intended to drive this level right through tjje ipur. a more decided dip than formerly, thus causing the drive to be turned northward in order to keep the reef in hand. Perseverance. —The workmen have a fine reef in hand iv the bottom level. In some places it is over four feet thick in the face. It is a little broken, but good gold can be got on pounding the stone, and several pieces when put in the fire and burned showed the precious metal freely. After driving some distance further a head a rise will be put up, when a splendid block will be available for stoping. Union.—Driving on the leader cut in the road level still continues. It is very thickly impregnated with base metals, but no gold has been seen yet. Maori Win.—There is a good leader, about a foot thick, in hand in this mine. Several levels have been opened on it, from which quartz averaging 2ozs per j ton has been taken out. , Hobbs'.—This company has a fine reef j iv hand striking northeast and south- ! west. It has been cut in several trenches, and a drive has now been started on it. It stands almost vertical, and is nearly a foot thick, the country alongside being everything one could wish for. There is every probability this will turn out a good claim. Stoddaht's.— The three contracts are in full swing, two of them in hard ground, the third in a splendid channel of country. In the latter (No. 3) a nice little leader has been cut, showing lots of mineral. On the opposite side of the spur two" wages men are employed driving on two leaders which are about four feet apart, but expected to join in about 10 feet. Barrett's.—The manager is making a hard push in this mine. Driving is going on in the low level below Blackmore's on a good strong leader running the same course as Blackmore's big reef. Nothing as yet has been seen in the quartz except* ing a dish prospect. He is also sinking a winze on the No. 1 reef. The quartz looks well enough for a patch of gold at any time. An opinion has been given that a lowerlevelmight with advantage be driven on the run of gold from which the crushing of 32ozs was got. The indications are as good as any part of the mine.
The Colonial (Stevens and party) below the Hape and Alpha, opened out on their leader yesterday, and struck rich gold in the same during the day—a good lot of stone showing freely. There was in consequence a brisk demand for shares. After following the trail of loose specimens for about a week, Stevens came on the leader and knocked out rich stones. In clearing a place for a paddock yesterday a few more rich stones were obtained. The first specimen taken out of the leader weighed about eight pounds, and was freely covered with rough gold.—C. Mail. New Golden Belt.—Mr Peter Hansen has assumed management of this mine, and is going to call for tenders to drive 140 feet from the face of the low level to cut the specimen leader. This will give upwards of 100 feet of backs. Good crushings were once obtained from this leader (25ozs to the ton being got. Pbide op Tiki.—Work is going on as usual without any change requiring special mention.
