Challenge Match.
The long talked of match, between fifteen men of the Scottish and an equal number of the Engineers, came of this morning. The day opened with bright sunshine, and, with the exception of a little wind that occasionally curled about the range, was favorable for shooting. Captain Small was in charge of the Engineers and Lieut. Coney of the Scottish!, while Lieuts. Sullivan and Crump marked for the teams during the forenoon. The following are the scores made:—
Ghand Totals: Scottish 10C5 Engineers ... , 993 Majority for Scottish ... 12 It will be seen that the match resulted in a majority of 12 for the Scottish. At the conclusion of the match Major Murray proposed three cheers for the losing team. Captain Small then proposed the same for the Scottish Battalion. Major Murray complimented the marker (Potts) and the scorers for the efficient manner in which their duties had been performed, which elicited applause from all present. The utmost good feeling existed throughout the whole of the proceedings.
