The Pumping Association.

The Pump to be Stopped

At a meeting of the directors of the Pumping -Association held yesterday in Auckland, it was decided to cease pumping operations at the end of three months. The determination was brought about principally through the action of the Moanataiari Company giving notice that its contributions would cease after the present month. We cannot say we are surprised at the result, for it will be remembered that some months ago we directed attention to the small amount of work that was being done in the lower levels of the mitres on the flat, and we then said that it was only a matter of a few months and the pumping operations would cease. We cannot approve altogether of the action of the Moanatairi Company, the directors of which seem to be very faint hearted, just because the Reserve Fund is exhausted, and the mine is not paying so well as formerly, they speak of discharging all their hands, and now of ceasing to contribute to the Pumping Association. The shareholders of ihe Moanatairi Company ought to retmujiber that they have received a great deal of gold from their mine, and with a little patience and perseverance may yet get as much more. From a statement of the amounts contributed by each company, it is f..uud that the Moanatairi has paid £1260 altogether, against the Kuranui's £3504. The local bodies have contributed towards drainage £12.664, and other companies as follows : — Waiotahi, £555 ; Golden Crown, £360 : Caledonian, £700; Cure, £387; Golden Calf, £215 ; Red Queen, £129 ; Southern Cross, £387; Prince Imperial, £120. The area of the Moanatairi is as large as that of all the last mentioned claims put together.
