OUR MINES.
OLD CALEDONIAN
The manager reports, uuder date 4th July, as follows : —" I have started driving on No. 1 reef, No. H level, south-west of No. 4 winze. There is a very large body of quartz now ia the face ; too much to carry in the drive. I am driving on the hanging-wall portion, which is of a blukh color—beariug some very good mineral, yellow and bright mundic. There is 90 feet to drive in this direction before No. 3 winze is reached. No. 1 lev.el: The crosscut and drive are both cleaned out acid secured, and also broken into from new crosscut. I have not got good ventilation. The quartz lambreakiug out along the No. 2, reef looks very well, and contains some very good miuerals, but no gold lias been seen. I have started driving back towards v-the old Otago run, on No. 1 reef, and in close proximity with No. 2 reef. N 4 o. 1 reef is rather split up where starting, but it appears to be making together going ahead. Very little done here as yet."—T. B. Hicks. OLD GOLDEN CALF.
The atopes are now opened up for % loug distance, and a good opportunity given of proving the. country. The leader has nofc changed since last reported.NEW GOLDEN CEO WN.
The amount of stuff put through the battery last mouth for the return 283oz's 13dwte naji 30} cona of general ditfc from
all parts of the raioe. At the battery level s'toping find driving is being carried on on No. 1 reef, and a crosscut is also beini* made here. Ah the 100 feet level, stoping aud driving on No. 1 reef aud stoping on No. 2is going on. A branch leader is also being driven on at the intermediate level.
HOPEFUL
Working on the low level has been temporarily stopped, owing to the junction of the cross-lode with the Golden City lode not beiug to hand, a winze from, the floor of the No. 2 level will, if possible, be carried down to the level below. It "is now down .about 30 feet, but it is feared that the influx of water from the cross lode will stop operations before it is cam: pleted. Work is going on on some of the small ieaders in the hanging Wall of the cross lode, and the stone met with is of good quality, though the water is troublesome. A parcel ot about 20 tons, and about OOlbs of picked stone were' put through the battery last week for the return of 31ozs melted gold.
WAIOTAHI.
The quartz which yielded the large returns chronicled last week was tatfeh > principally from the stopes on No 4 ands lodes above the No. 3 levels. There are still large blocks of ground here not worked, and numerous small leaders are found in the hauging and foottvalls of them, which yield good payable quartz. .
