CALEDONIAN. Tbe manager reports for the week as folioWß :—" The contractors at No. 1 lerel bare made slow progress this last week. Tbe ground has been fall of tight sand-
stone and stringers of quartz. The distauoe driven is 22-J- feet this fortnight, still leaving the reefs on either side not broken down. The crosscut at this level has been cleaned out, and I find No. 2 reef is about 30 feet in thickness in this crosscut, There is a drive driven along the hanging-wall of No. 2 reef north-east which I am now cleaning out and re- , timbering, The ground south west of this crosscut has not been driven on on No. 2 reef. JNo. 3 reef: I have knocked the men off from rising for the present, as there was no gold seen in the rise since | started, and the leader is split into several small stringers. The men I have put back to clean out crosscut at this level, which intersects No. 4 winze, sunk from No. 2 level, aDd which I mentioned in my last. Paltridge and party crushed 23 tons for 42ozs 15dwts gold."—T. B. HicJtfl." SOUTHERN CROBB. ;. The manager has started to crush a parcel of about 100 tons, a slide from the hill on the Alburnia tramway, and believes it will be payable. Work is being carried , T on on Hamilton's leader, above battery level, and a little picked stone has come - . to hand from here. A few pounds of picked stone has also come to hand from the winze on cross leader, and gold has been seen on the leader at battery level. ■ The cross-leader above tramway level where it runs into the specimen leader also looks well, but the block"of ground hen ! is small. GOLD RETURNS. - Coliban.—Hunter and party have finished a crushing of nine loada at tb» Alburnia battery, for the fine yield of 1790zs ldwt melted gold. Moanataiki.—White and party have finished their crushing of 16 tons at the Kuranui Hill battery for the yield of 26ozs lOdwts gold. Radical.—A crushing for Campbell and party, of Owharoa, produced 90ozs gold.
