RESIDENT MAGISTRATE'S COURT

(Before H. Kenrick, Esq., 8.M.) DKTJNKENNKSS. Patrick Kelly, against whom there were ten previous convictions, pleaded guilty to charge of drunkenness and disorderly conduct. Fined 20s and costs, or 48 hours' impi'isonment.
ASSAULTING A CONSTABLE
The same defendant was charged witb assaulting Constable Law while in the execution of his duty.
Constable Law deposed to taking defendant in charge for drunkenness, when he pulled his whiskers and knocked him about.
Fined £3 and costs, or 14 days' imprisonment.
ASSAULT,
Biehard Mears was charged with assaulting one S. Hill.
Mr Dodd appeared for defendant, and pleaded not guilty. He applied for an adjournment. Mr Miller appeared for complainant. Adjourned till Wednesday. INDECENCY.
Alexander McNeill, a decripit old man, was charged with exposing his person oft' Grey street. ( Sergt. Murphy deposed to finding defendant lying outside a fisherman's hut oft' Grey street with his trousers down. He could be seen from the short cut to Grey street. Witness roused him up and took him to the lock up. Defendant said lie had come from Paeroa, and his bedding being aboard the steamer he had laid down to wait for her to discharge. His Worship said he did not think defendant has committed the act of indecency willingly, and consequently the case would be dismissed. CHIMNEY ON WEE. Henry Moore was charged with permitting the chimney of his house to take fire, and pleading guilty was fined Is and costs. Herbert Brunton pleaded guilty to a similar offence and was fined Is and costs.
