Painful Accident.

A painful accident occurred in Willoughby street this morning to a man Henry Woods, a resident of Parawai. It appears that he was driving a horse and cart (a borrowed or hired one, we believe) along Willoughby street, when the horse bolted, and in the efforts made by Woods to stop* it, he was knocked down, the wheel of the cart passing over and breaking his right leg. Unfortunately, in falling his leg was across the gutter or water table, and of course, owing to the hollow underneath, the fracture is a great deal worse than it probably otherwise would have been. As it is, it is a very bad one, and it is impossible to say for a few days yet how it will turn out. Dr Payne was in attendance, and of course did all that could be done to alleviate the sufferings of the unfortunate man.
