Hauraki Engineers.

On Friday evening last the Engineers were instructed in various movements ou the reclamation ground, including marching in echelon, skirmishing, &c, all aoqutting themselves creditably. A meeting of

the corps was afterwards held in the drill shed, at which Captain Small, Sub-Lieut. Leydon, and about seventy members were present. Captain Small, after giving the members some information re equipments, &c, for Waikato, read the resignation of Lieut. Denby, and iv doing' so said that he was sure the Company would feel in this matter the same as himself, that in losing Lieut. Denby they were losing a gentleman who had always done his best for the Company, and who was what every officer of the Company ught to be, but which, he was sorry to say, was not the case all round. The members then unanimously elected Mr Denby a life hon. member of the Hauraki Engineers. The question of appointing a First Lieutenant was then considered, and it was resolved that the Company proceed to elect at once. Bandmaster D. E. O'Sullivan was then chosen without one discordant voice to be First Lieutenant, and was informed by the Captain that he fully agreed with the decision of the Company. Lieutenant O'Sullivan returned thanks for the honor, and said that he hoped to prove, by his future conduct, that the confidence ol the Company was not misplaced on this occasion. The Company then adjourned to Mr Mahoney's, and drank the healths of their Captain, their newly elected and their late First Lieutenant, and after Mr Wiseman's latest song the members dispersed.
