This day
At the meeting of the shareholders of the Battery Company, held, at O'llalloran's on Saturday evening, there were about 30 persons- present, and Mr J. Gould was called to the chair. It was resolved to form a company under the Goldmining Districts Act, 1872, to be called the Te Aroha Quartz Crushing Company, Limited. Messrs J. Gould, R. Parr, H. H. Adams, E. Fitzpatrick, and J. B, Smith were elected directors. Mr H. E. Whitaker was appointed legal manager. A vote of thanks was accorded to Mb Adam Porter and the other provisional directors for their untiring exertions. A meeting of the new directorate will be held to day.
A few pieces of stone showing gold freely have been discovered in the Morning Star. People are now more hopeful than a week or so back, as it is believed that several of the first crushings at the battery will give payable results.
X&tapa, Bundarra and other horses have arrived, all beiug in good condition. Potentate has not accepted. The course is in good order. I have heard of several doubles—Lonehand and Lonehand, Golden Crown and Loafer, Lonehand and Yatapa, Yatapa and Loafer. Harold is also backed.
