Cricket.

On Saturday afternoon several members and friends of the Thames C.C. met at Parawai for a practice match. Messrs Harrison and Gellion picked the sides, j and the former had the privilege of going to the wicket first. Webber handled the leather at one end, and Frater and Gellion alternately went on at the other. The former's style was much admired, he is a fast bowler and is very straight. G-ellion's slows also did some damage, his varied pitch telliug much against the batsmen. Burgess played a nice innings for 35, showing good defensive powers. For G-ellion's team Frater's innings of 38 was neatly put together. Strongman played an excelient innings for 37, and Hunter not out 14, made it lively for the field, who, by-the-bye, were not over anxious to secure the ball. Unfortunately the beat was intense, and had this not been the case, we do, not think there would have been 50 extras to chronicle in two innings. Connell bowled well for Harrison's side. The following are the scores : —Harrison's side : Marsden, b Webber, 8 ; Dovell, run out, 2 ; Burgess, b Webber, 35 ; Spry, b Webber c Gellion, 12; Harrison, b Gellion, 0 ; Poulgrain, not out, 9 ; Comer, b Gellion, 3; Connell, b Gellion, 2; Spencer, b Webber, 1; extras, 22 : total, 94. Gellion's side: Webber, b Ibw Connell, 3 ; Frater, b Connell c Spencer, 38; G. Smith, not out, 10; J. Smith, b Burgess, 3; Dovell, b Connell c Marsden, 4; Nodder, b Connell, 0; Hunter, not out, 14 ; Strongman, b Marsden c Spry, 37; extras, 28 : total, 137.
