NEW NORTH DEVON.
The face of the "drive at the 70 feet level has been pushed forward about 40 feet past the winze, and the prospects continue encouraging. The whole of the quartz broken down has been sent to the battery. The reef is now only four feet in thickness, but the stone from it shows strong colours of gold all through t'ae lode, as well as copper pyrites and other minerals. The manager expects, shortly to meet with the splice in the reef met with when driving ahead the tributers' intermediate level, and beyond which the stone will probably improve in quality. A branch of quartz has been found striking out through the .intervening mass of mullock towards the hanging-wall portion from the foot wall of the reef in the westward drive. The remaining portion has not altered its course, 'and. contains good mineral, showing colours of gold up to the face. Work will now be suspended on it for a few days to allow of a leading stope being. carried forward towards the face of the drive from the temporary rise put up a few days ago. Ten stamps are still employed at the Herald battery in crushing the quartz, which is showing for another excellent return.
