(FBOM OVB OWN COBBESPONDENT.)

Wellington, This day. THE MUBDEB OF MOFFITT.

There is, I fear, some truth in the intelligence which reaches us from Whangarei, that the murdered man Moffitt was suspected by the natives of being sent by some person connected with the Native Department to their district, and as such I am afraid they looked upon his movements with great suspicion, and determined that he must die irlie did not take their warning advice. This, I suppose, the deceased did not do, and your readers, therefore, are well aware of his untimely end. The Government organs seem to make light of the whole affair, but the melancholy end of this unfortunate victim is v matter which cannot be lightly passed over. No- one knows what will happen now on the West Coast should another murder of a like nature be perpetrated. Outside the colory, of course, the occurrence will be viewed horn a different light from the aspect which the death assumes in the eyes of the colonists. .

LATEB TELEGBA.M.

It is rumored that Moffitt was engaged previous to his death to further Murimutu negociatious. The report that the warrant for the apprehension of the murderer has been issued by the Government is untrue. If a coroner's inquest was held and evidence taken that would be the proper tribunal to find a verdict of wilful murder against some person or persons known or unknown.
