The leader of the Opposition in the Assembly vigorously condemned the action of the Government in ratifying the mail contract without their consent, and stated he had telegraphed to the contractors, claiming to represent a large majority of the colonists and would not consider therastives bound by the contract, which it repudiated as unconstitutional. A petition, presented to the Assembiy, alleged that several proprietors of newspapers in the House were disqualified from being contractors of Government advertising.
