A MEETING- of the Victorian Cabinet has decided on the following scales of reductions in the Civil Service :—Snl ries below £200 to be untouched; up to £700, 10 per cent, on £500; above £700,15 per cent, on the wholo. —This scale is certainly more business like than the foolish eebenie adopted by our Government. Servants with salaries under £200 can ill afford at y reduction, whereas those in receipt of above £700 can well afford to have 15 per ctnt. of the amount cocked for the good of the country. The Qoeens^nd Government reports tbat instructions have been forwarded to tho Agent-General in London, to despatch eight shirß annually with not more than 275 emigrants each to that colony.
