RESIDENT MAGISTEATE'S COURT
THIS DAY. . (Before H. Kenrick, Esq., E.M.) ASSAULT. W. Kelsall was charged with assaultiiii: his wife, Margflret Jane Kolsnli. Defendant plea-led not (iiiiliy. Mrs Kelsall deposed ihai ye.'.fenhiy morning when she was preparing defudant's breakfast, lie struck her on the head with a billet of wood, inflicting a nasty cut. Ho picked it up and struck her without warning. Neither of them " had spoken a crooked word no way." Neither of them had been drinking. She wished an order for separate m-'intcnnt.ee, as she could not possibly lire with him The def ndant staled that, his wife was in the habit of drinking, and &hn was perfectly unbearable. Yesterday morning; she commenced nagging at him and-struck him on the nose with a piece of wood. In the struggle she got tho cut on the head. No one knew what he had to put up with with the woman. His Worship bound defendant over to keep tho peace for six caonths in his own recognisance in the sum of £10 and pay the costs. Court adjourned.
