London, September 3. The combined fleet has started for Ragusa.
In the House of Commons, Sir Charles Dilke, Undersecretary for Foreign Affairs, said that Admiral Seymour takes command, but consults other commanders on questions that may command dispute owing to their combinations being of a political character. He believed, however, that it was not likely coercion would be required.
Latest advices from South America state that negotiations have been opened between Chili and Peru for the purpose of terminating the war, England and France mediating.
Madbid, September 2
News has been received that as a battalion of Spanish troops were crossing the bridge over the river Ebro, at Lagrons, the structure gave way, and 69 men were drowned.
London, September 2. (Bin the Bouse of Lords yesterday the Registration of Voters (Ireland) Bill, which had passed the House of Commons, was finally thrown out.
The action of the Lords was discussed in the House of Commons to-day, when Mr Parncll proposed that measures should be taken to appropriate the Act. Lord Hartington did not approve of this, and suggested that a resolution be passed remonstrating against the action of the House of Lords. Mr Parnell assented to this proposal.
The mail per Orient Company's steamer Liguira, via Brindisi, which left Melbourne on July 23rd, was delivered in London to-day.
At the wool sale to-day, 9100 bales were offered, making a total of 130,900 bales catalogued since the opening. The tone of the sale show prices were firmyl maintained. 10,000 bales have been withdrawn from sale since the opening.
