NEW WHAU.
The crushing Tor this company at the Herald did not shape |p.well at heretofore during the past week, the show being for about an ounce per load. A better grade of dirt is now being sent down. 160 feet leTel—The face of the drite is now about 50 feet from the Alburnia boundary, the lode being carried on I the foot wall of the drive, the country on that side being preferable because less I hard than the hanging wall country. None of the lode is being saved at present. The best looking piece of the reef is in the centre of the lode, and that is a dark bine, well mineralised though coarse quarts. There is a good deal of buck quartz on both the hinging wall and footwall. The intermediate level is now €oor 70 feet from the winze,"and the reef is without change to mention. In th% leading Bto{M over this working there i« a nice looking leader running parallel with the foot wall of the lode, from whioh some excellent specimens of fine goldiiare been obtained. The lode in tl»» back is b«oon»-
ing " vuggy," or full of crab-holes, which I considered a favorable sign in connection with this reef, some of the best gold obtained from the Albumin intermediate level being taken from the vicinity of the " vugs." The )#de here is well mineralised,' and of late a peculiar mineral resembling ruby silver and locally known as "Cousin John Rowe's Pinky," has been frequently met with. It is considered a pretty sure sigo of the proximity of rich gold, and taking into consideration the excellent appearance of the quartz in the back, I will be surprised if the next stope carried along does not give a patch of specimen st ne.
