ALBURNIA.
; Dixon/s section : The winze continues to make excellent progress. A 'trial crushing of £ loads of the quartz taken from the leader here yielded amalgam equivalent to sozs of gold per load. The crosscut in this section at the 160 feet level v has been extended about 30 feet through a good class of country containing plenty of mineral, and interlaced with black veins, Last night a healthy looking leader was out, showing good copper indications. It is about four inches thick, and from its course I should say it is a dropper of the lode on which the first workings of this level were driven. The contract is for 150 feet of driving, which the manager thinks will bring him under the winze. 'Of.late; however, the lode in that working has taken a greater underlie which may necessitate a greater distance being driven. If the present description of country continues there is every probability of the lode being rich. Old stopes, 70 feet level: The manager, has started a winze here, the lode being about afoot thick. Gold is seen every breaking, down, • and specimens obtained occasionally** This mormngabwit 101 bs of good goldeir stone was taken from this working. Tttere is nothing new of importance to report in connection with the other workings. Doubtless when the Whau have reached the Alburnia boundary (Black Angel) the company will continue the drive on the Sons of Freedom reef. Only abcut 100 feet would need to be driven to connect with the passes to the Sous of Freedom tunnel, and this would save the 700 or 800 feet of trucking on the present circuitous route. - fe.
