MOANATAIRI.

Last evening the men working in the Nonpareil cross cut touched quartz, and today, by the aid of the rock-drill, a reef 8 feet thick was broken into. The quartz is well mineralised with mundic and antimony, and though no gold baa been seen, the indications are highly encouraging. The ground is good "reefy" country, and favourable to the existence of aurifenous quartz. The manager says it is the best he has yet met with on this side of the slide. The identity of the lode has not yet been ascertained, but it cannot be one of the Noapariel lodes. On Thursday a reef 18 inches thick and showing likely looking quartz was picked with- in the 100 feet level, Point Russell section. It runs at a different angle to the Point Russell lode, and is probably a reef that junctions with it.
