Mining Review of the Week.
During the week no change has taken place as regards the position of the pumping question, there being as yet no practical outcome of the recent meeting of the^directors of companies interested, at which it was decided to parohase the Big Famp. We hare reason for believing that the necessity of working both pumps in unison is the cause of the delay, and we trust that some arrangement will speedily be come to, to admit of this being done. Of one thing we are certain—it is useless to tinker up the pumping question unless the present conflicting interests are amalgamated.
The Corner has been exceedingly quiet, and stockholders are looking glummer than ever. Hopes are, however, enter* tamed of the Alburnia, Moanatairi, and Golden Calf turning up trumps and restoring the departed activity in mining; matters. Considerable interest is taken in the result of the Mbanatairi's operations in the cross-cut into the Nonpareil section, where splendid gold was obtained in the upper levels, it being hoped some of the golden shots descend. The Alburnia is on good gold, having struck a patch of golden stone in the. stopes over the 70 feet level, in consequence of which there is a probability of several good dividends coming from this portion of the mine. The Calf has also shown an improvement during the week.
