Last Night's Sitting.

The debate was continued on the Native Land Sales Bill by Major Te Wheoro, who, at great length, condemned the bill, and urged its postponement till next session to nllow the natives generally, to exprrss their opinion. Mr Macandrew urged that the bill be referred to a Select Committee.

Mr DeLautour condemned the bill, and went at length into the Patetere transactions to show that Mr JJryce had connived with speculators to throw the native lands into their hands regardless of public or native interests. He supported the proposal to refer the bill to a • Select Committee. This day. Mr Eusaell supported the Bill generally but suggested a number of improvements in committee. Sir W. Fox and Mr Gisborne alsoi supported the Bill. Mr Tawhai opposed it. ; Mr Ballance approved of several principles, and thought th» Maori objection

to place lands under the Waste Lands Board might be obviated by giving them a representation on those boards.

Mr Moss opposed the Bill. Mr Tole moved the adjournment of the debate, but

Mr Hall objected, and the proposal was rejected by 27 to 18. A long and irregular discussion then ensued on the motion to adjourn the House.

After an hour and a half of this, the debate was adjourned until Friday, and the House rose at 2.15 a.m.
