NEW WHAU.
Good progress is being made in the intermediate level, and the quartz has a healthy appearance for gold, colors being visible occasionally. At one foint a little distance from the winze the lode jumps into the footwall. At first it was thought that- the reef was cut off by the he^ve, but it has been picked up again, and to my mind bears a much better appearance thin previously, the quartz being well
mineralised, and showing dabs of gold where brokon. The quartz in the leading atope is well mineralised, and blocky, and should crush payably. Colors of gold are seen frequently in the upper stopes The reef in the level frequently changes, in appearance, the buck reef sometimes making strong and at other times appearing to die out. The country does not show much change, and the quartz on the hauging-wall side is of a nature that gold might be obtained any time—however there is'none there yet. To-day the company made a start at crushing at the Herald mill.
