MINT.

Going up the creek to-day I looked over the piece of ground owned by the recently formed Mint Gold Mining Company. It is peg and peg with the Alburnia, Flying Cloud, Watchman, Colibnn, and other claims, with a famous past or prosperous present, and contains about 25 men's ground. There is fully 700 feet on the line of the Sons of Freedom, Port Wai-. kato and Comet reefs. The company has a capital of £12,000 in £1 shares, and the promoters have wisely placed £400 to the credit of the infant company, with which to commence the development of its undoubtedly great resources. At a recent meeting of the directors it was decided to appoint Mr Thomas Kneebone— late manager of the Watchman, and consequently quite au fait with the country, mine manager, aad tenders will be called immediately for driving to cut the Comet lode The right of the Middle Star tunnel has been secured, and this will be the scene of the first operations, this work being home to the Mint boundary. The Sons of Freedom reef which is of great thickness at this point is in the face of it, but will be worked to much better advantage from the Alburnia and Beuben Parr joint tunnel. The Comet lode is now being wrought very successfully by the proprietors of the Col>ban claim, and the share* holders of the Clyde have taken some highly remunerative. crushings from the Port Waikato reef; I should mention that from the Middle Star tunnel there is fully three hundred feet of backs. It is estimated that 60 or 70 feet will need to be driven to cut the Comet lode.
