NEW WHAU.
At the time of my visit to this mine today several shots had just been fired in the face of the drive and in the stopes. In the drive, speaking in comparison with the appearance of the lode at the time of my last visit, there was really a great improvement. A large quantity of buck quartz which formed the footwall of the lode appears to be cutting out. The hanging wall is composed of 18 inches or two' feet of good looking stone, dark colored and heavily mineralised, and I saw a color of gold in the face. Some stones broken by the shot also showed colors.' The appearance of the lode leads me to beliere that another few feet should disclose remunerative quarts. In the stopes quartz is being broken rapidly, and colors of gold are seen frequently. The stone broken is payable. The.manager's report regarding this morning's operations is as follows:—" Reef in low level greatly improved. 18 inches of hanging-wall portion well mineralised and dabs of gold showing."
