ALBURNIA.
The first interim retorting for the month eventuated this afternoon, when the handsome yield of 657fozs gold was obtained. This is really splendid when it is taken into consideration that this is the produce of one week's crushing. The mine was visited to-day. Before going below I was shewn by the manager some 3001bs of picked stone and specimens which have accumulated since yesterday. Some of the stones from the intermediate stopes { are really first class, and some exceedingly • nice stones were shown me from the i hanging wall leader stopes at 70 feet level, ! Sons of Freedom tunnel—The excellent j condition of the tunnel reflects the greatest credit on the management. The reef looks well for gold, though no gold was visible to-day, and I was informed that none has been seen since the color reported last week. 160 feet level—ln the face of the eastern drive I found that the lode has been " heaved " out of its j course and both hanging and footwall are visible in the drive. The lode contains any quantity of mineral and the quartz crushes payably. At the point where the last party of contractors cut through the lode, Mr Kadford has started a couple of wages men to breaking quarlz. The reef at this point is about 14 feet thick, aDd bears a promising appearance, and I was informed that a few colors of gold have been seen in the stone. The junction of the hanging wall leader is now near at hand, and the manager has every confidence that the block will prove a'most satisfactory one. I ma; mention in connection with the heave that there is every indication of the lode resuming its old: course.: The face of the drive is within 100 feet of the New Worth Devon boundary. 70 feet level: A few days ago the manager suspended the drive on the hanging wall leader in consequence of its splitting up, but on carrying the stopes up to the face, the lode was found to be looking better than ever, and driving will be resumed in a day or two. The lode is about 18 inches thick, and is showing ''good gold: Intermediate level: In the stopes east and west of winze there is no change to notice. Good specimen stone is obtained every breaking down, and there is a fine show along the back. In the stopes throughout good crushing stone is coming to hand with occasional patches of specimen stone, aid the general dirt is a^very fair quality.
