WELLINGTON.

Several experienced persons visited the Manawatu ranges on Monday to examine the locality of the recent discovery of copper ore.
A serious accident occurred at Palmerston yesterday. A man named Patrick Maxwell was riding on the railway line when the engine overtook him and struck bis horse, killing it instantly, and seriously injuring the man. Slight hopes of his recovery are entertained.
