ALBURNIA.
Tho mine was Tisited to-daj. The manager has started opening out an intermediate level from the winze, aud the lode nt both ends has a promising appearance. Some gold has been obtained from both, faces. The west drive is being puuhed ahead vigorously towards the boundary, and will prove the centre portion of the block between the 70 and 160 ft iev Is. llighfc up against the Whau bouudary the manager has commenced to understope, and the ..quartz taken out so far closely resembles the stone from the ■ end of the drive. This is somewhat puzzling as the western end of the underhand stope is within four or five feet of the Wtiau winze, and the floor of the stope is .below where the Whau manager obtained his first patch of specimen stone, u'liilo he took some of the richest of his stone when breaking down right up against the boundary line. I believe, however, when the stope is a little deeper, the gold will be struck. The reef in the facu of the drive east of 70-feet level continues to look well, and gold has been seen within the leading stope, while in the east drive of Dixon's lower level there is two feet of healthy-looking quartz. There is nothing new worth noticing in any other portion of the mine, indeed all interest now may be said to be centred in the block under tho 70-feet level west, and what is the direction and size of the run is of course only a matter of theory. The Whau got the rich gold on the side of the winze nearest the Alburnia boundary, but whether the precious metal widens into the company's ground, or is merely a narrow patch on the boundary, the operations of the next few weeks will disclose.
