With the object of accelerating the 'Francisco mail service, and providing for probable trade requirements, the Pacific Mail Company have applied for and obtained permission from the contracting Government to send either the City of Pekin or the City of Tokio from 'Frisco to the colonies for the purpose of being inspected, and substituted, if necessary, as a mail boat under the contract for either the City of New York or City of Sydney. The Maori Prisoners—A New Feature. It is stated that counsel for the prisoners have determined to contest the validity of the Governor's action is assenting to the Maori-Prisoners' Trial Bill, on the ground of the Bill being repugnant to the law of England, and outside the Governor's instructions.
