Calcutta, December 17. The Afghan Revolt.
The position of the British TroopsIt is believed the British are in position at Sherpar, in strong cantonments with fortifications outside Cabul. The hills in the rear are in possession of the British troops.
The British entrenchment! are strengthened with ample/ supplies of material, and thtre is, every reason to believe the position to be tenable pending the arrival of reinforcements. ■ i' i General Gough's advance is stopped by hostile tribes.
Reinforcements are being sent from Pashawur, where reserve forces are forming.
