Last night. There is no truth whatever in the statement made in Saturday's Herald that scab has made its appearance iv Hawke's Bay. The Sheep Inpsector emphatically denies it, and it turns out that the statement was made under misconception as to locality, which is to the nothern boundary of Hawke's Bay. but more than 50 miles from this province itself.

At an inquest on the fire at Norswood Working Men's Club the jury returned a verdict thut the fire was wilfully caused by Edward Anderson Lanerig, a person carrying on business and owuing premises which were insured for £300 in the North British. The place was very little damaged by fire, Lanerig himself putting it out. The floor and walls of the reading room were saturated with kerosene. It was proved that Lanerig had offered to sell the place for £200, one-fourth cash. The weather continues very wet. Feed is very abundant; nearly all the shearing is over, and much wool has been already shipped.

Hoadley and Lyons report an animated competition at their wool and skin sale last Saturday and an advance of a halfpenny to a penny per pound was obtained on the last week's quotations. Cross-bred wool in grease sold at 7d per pound Crossbred $kinsat 6d per pound, merino ditto, 7d per pound.
