WELLINGTON.
Last night. Protectioa and Alteration of the Tariff, A deputation from the Industrial Protection Society to the Tariff Committee of the House of JRepreaentatives today presented an address pointing out the necessity of raising the tariff, and also a schedule showing the means bj which they thought some alteration may be made with advantage. The Committee replied that the matter would rcceire their earliest consideration. Trade Concerns. The delegates from tho Licensed Victuallers Association finished their meetings to-day, but what transpired has not been made public. They hold • banquet this evening. At the Police Court this morning, Frank Nicholson, collector for Punch, wbi committed for trial for stealing various sums, amounting to £25, which he had collected.
