LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL.
Wellington, Last night. The Speaker took the Chair at 2 p.m. Shortly after the Governor* entered and delivered his speech,' and after the retirement, of the Governor and members of the Lower House,, several notices foi the appointment of Committees were given. NEW MEMBER. Mr W. Wood was sworn in and took his seal. EDUCATION I'.ESEIIVES. Sir F. D. Bell notified that he would ask next day when the return of education reserves, ordered in 1878, would be presented. After some routine in business, the Council adjourned till 3 p.m. HOUSE OP REPRESENTATIVES. The House re-assembled at 2 p.m., when the hon. members were summoned to the Upper House, where the Governor delivered his speech. On returning the following business was transacted. IMBECILE PASSENGERS* BILL. Leave was granted to the Premier to introduce tie Imbecile Passengers Bill, which was read for the first time. CHAIRMANSHIP OF COMMITTEES. The Premier gave notice that he would move at next sitting day the appointment of Mr Seymour a3 Chairman of Committees. ' . > OTHER BILLS. The Premier gave notice that he would ask leave t > introduce the Trieuniel Parliaments Bill, 1879, as also a bill entitled the " Alienation of Maori Lands Act," and a Bill to provide for the representation of the people in Parliament. ...... THE INGLES TFEGGBAM. Mr Saunders gave notice that he would ask Goverament whether or not & certain tMpgram forwarded by the Hon. Colonel Wmtmore to Mr Henry Ingles suggesting , (bit he should contest the Cheviot election against Mr Saunders, and not promising that his claim, iiuccessful or not successful, would be considered, was franked as a telegram on public service or was paid for as a private telegram. SUPPRESSION OF IMMORAL PLAYS. Mr Dick gave notice that ho would ask if it is the intention of the Government to introduce a Bill for the suppression of playi tending to immorality. TIMBER AND FLOUR DUTIES. Mr Murray gave notice that he would ask if it is the intention of Government to re-impose the duty on timber end flour. PLUBiLITY OF VOTING. The Premier gave notice that a Bill to suspend plurality of voting in cases of election for local governing bodies. A communication was read from the Commissioner to the Sydney Exhibition intimating that complimentary tickets would be issued to members of the House desirous of visiting the Exhibition. ADDBESS IN BIPLY. Mr Andrews gave' notice to move the Address in Reply at 3.30. The House adjourned until tr-morrow at 2.30 p.m.
