Parliament will be dissolved by proclamation either to-morrow afternoon or Friday morning, and the new writs will be issued on Monday.
The electioneering campaign was com* menced last night by Dr Newman, one of the candidates for the city of Wellington. About. SCO persons were present, and the speaker was well receired. He expressed himself in favor of the Liberal principles, bat thought it was time the present Gorernment were out of office.. He would support manhood suffrage, but thought it would be advisable to defer it for a time. He thought there were other matters of greater importance to be dealt with than that of triennial parliaments, though he was not adverse to such a measure. At the conclusion, of the meeting the candidate receired a rote of thanks.
George Hunter, one of the present members, has announced his intention to seek re-election.
The Commercial hotel had a narrow escape last night. A constable on duty noticed a fire in a bedroom, and it was extinguished before much damage was done.
A further detachment of A.C.'s were sent to Patea this morning. A farther number are in barracks, ready to be sent as soon as required.
It has been decided to form a bellringers' association in connection with the peal of bells coming out for the new St. Peter's Church.
Nearly 400 names are on the list of the newly-formed Liberal Association. ■■■,-.■

The New Zealand *Loan and Mercantile Agency Company's monthly sale of wool, sheep-skins, &c, was held this afternoon. There was a full attendance of buyers and prices were well maintained. Wool: A | few inferior lots of mixed fleece and pieces realised up to s|d. Sheepskins : Butchers' green-skin, 2s 6d to 3s Id each; dozen cross-bred skins, 2fd to 5d per lb; silts and shortwool skins, 6d to Is lOd each. . Hides : Demand slack, but good heavy weights of 651bs and upwards sell well at 3d per lb;. light weights, unsaleable at over 2d per lb. Tallow: No demand—arrivals coming in freely, but with the news of a rise at home, holders expect to obtain their reserves. Grain: Oats are id fair supply, and for good feed, 3s is obtainable;. chick wheat, 3s to 3s 4d, according to samples, with a moderate demand. Chaff: £5 ids to £6 per ton for hydraulic pressed.
