Thames Harbor Board.
The fortnightly meeting was held at the Board's office last evening. Present— Messrs Davjes (Chairman), MeGbwan, Wilson, Bagnall, Head, Brown, Osborne, / ' ",/- HIHUTBB.' '■' " The minutes of the prerious mteting were read and confirmed.
HASTEBS* CBBTIFICATES." A Committee was appointed to report on a letter from the Marine Department asking if the Board would allow the Harbor Master ti examine candidates for certificates as masters of rirerataamtrs. ; FOBBSHOBB ALLOTMENTS; An application was received'from John Brown, j offering '£50 for an extension for one year of his foreshore allotment lease. Granted. Mr Sims applied for the'lease of certain allotment* near the<i :Imj>eritl Crown battery for sluicing purposes. These allotments had bean already leased to Mr Ferry, of which fact it was resolred to inform Mr Sims. ' WATBB JUCTSB.
On the application of the Water Supply Committee* it was resolved to remove the shipping water meter, from the Burke street wharf toll house to the storm ball tee. APPLICATION. The Chairman r and Mr Oaborae were, appointed a committee to report at next, meeting re an application by Mr James Marshall for permission to construct 3 groins to prevent the e'neroaohment, of the river on his property at' Parawai.
FINANCIAL. ' A Committee was appointed to wait on the manager of the Bank of New Zealand re the financial position of the Board.
BOAT BUILDING.
Permission was granted Mr Smarden to build a barge on the beach near Shortland Wharf.
BAILWAY CHOMING
Mr K. ,N,. Smith's letter re the necessity of a railway crossing near Curtis' wharf, which had been referred to the Board by the Counoil was then considered. It was resolved that Mr Ehrenfried be requested to conifer with the Distriot Engineer re the site of the crossing.
MINING LEASES OK FOBBSHOBI. ■. The report of the committee on this matter was as follows:—" The Committee have to report that they have, given -, Mr Brassey instructions to prepare draft leases and submit same to the following companies: Moanatairi, Kuranui, Herald, and Imperial Crown, on the basis agreed upon previous to the issue of the grant; also to prepare the leases for Mr Stone and Mr Phillips, and for Messrs Climo and Bawdon."
, On this matter a letter was read from Messrs Macdonald and Miller, in whose hands the preparation of the foreshore leases had been placed 12 months ago, but had not been completed owing to the nonarrival of the foreshore grant. The writers stated that when so employed by the Board a committee of the Board had appointed another solicitor to prepare these leases. It had been stated they were acting for the companies taking the leases, but such they might state was not the oase. After some discussion Mr Bead moved a resolution to the fact that a letter be sent to Maedonald and Miller stating that the Board had no intention to casti a reflection on their professional character, and as Mr Brassey had been employed they could not take the work from him. Mr McGowan seconded. Carried.
It wrs decided that the Chairman should see the leases put in proper form.
FINANCIAL.
Several accounts were, passed for pay* ment.
NOTICB OF MOTION. Mr Ehrenfried gave notice of motion as follows :—•" That the Thames Harbour .Board communicate officially with the Auckland Harbour Board with a view to getting that body io allow, all goods manufactured from articles which, have previously paid wharfage in Auckland to pass freo into Auckland; that such action, if taken by the Auckland Harbour Board, won Id very greatly encourage and' foster various industries and manufactures in the various centres of population in the Provincial Distriot of Auckland* tad
would, from . the encouragement and impetus it Would give to trade, materially add to the prosperity of the Provincial capital and centres of population, as well at to the shipping trade of the port. The Board then adjourned.
