RESIDENT MAGISTRATE'S COURT
THIS DAY. (Before Colonel Fraser, R.M.) NO LIGHT.
Bichard Tregonning wat charged, with, neglecting to keep a light burning over the principal door of his licensed house. Defendant pleaded guilty. Fined Is aud cotts. INSULTING LANGUAGE. Sobert Fox was charged with using insulting language towards one Bridget Porter, wherefore plaintiff applied that defendant be bound over to keep the peace. Mr Dodd appeared for defendant. Bridget Porter gave evidence to the effect that her husband and defendant had a few words, and she tried to get her husband inside,, when Fox called her a very nasty name< In Croat-examination Mr Dodd elicited that the plaintiff and her husband had been complaining of the conduct of defen> dani'a wife. * , Plaintiff's husband gave corroborative evidence, as likewise did John Canty and teveral other witnesses. Mary Abbott, sworn, deposed—l live principally with Mrs Fox. as ray husband it awty working with Mr Fox. Porter has been telling stories about Mra Fox and myself, and when Fox came home the night before last we told him what Porter had been saying. Next morning Fox went and questioned Porter, who used most insulting terms towards Mrs Fox. Elisabeth Fox gave corroborative evidence.
His Worship fined defendant 20s and costs, or in default 7 days imprisonment. 'Court adjourned.
