COUNTY COUCIL.

,'A, special meeting of the Thames .County Council was held this afternoon at the Council Chambers, Follen street. All the Councillors were present except Messrs Bag nail, Carpent3r and Coutts. ' Before proceeding with the special business for which the meeting had been summoned, Mr H. JJ. Johnson was heard on behalf of the residents of Ohinemuri who were desirous that the new bridge at Paeroa, which is now rapidly approaching completion, should bo opened in a formal manner. Ha said that the people there would be rer/glad if His Excellency the Gorernor accompanied by the Hon John Sheehan (if possible) would open the bridge in person, but if it were found impossible to make the necessary arrangements owing to the limited time il His Excellency's disposal, they would feel very grateful if the Council wouki take steps to open

it in as formal a manner as possible. The Kauaeranga Bridge opening had had a good effect upon the native mind, and he,thought that the adoption of a similar course in connection with the Paeroa Bridge (which is still further opening up native districts) would have a shrubr effect. The Chairman said that the Council would duly consider the application raado and the result would bo communicated by letter. [Left sitting.]
