Thames Harbor Board.
The usual monthly meeting of the Board was held at the-Counc'l Chambers last evening. Present—His Worship the Mayor (in the chair), Messrs Osborne. Brown, Wilson, Bagnall, Head, and McGowan. MINUTES. The minutes of the previous meeting wero read and conflrmed. Mr Baghall said with reference to the resolution moved by Mr Wilson at last meeting, re the calling of tenders - for services, that the resolution had included both the to king and retaining the tplisi at the wharves. Tlie advertisement calling for tenders only mentioned the taking. ■ Mr Osborne said that he had been under a similar impression. : ■'•■'■' \ It was resolved to let the matter stand over till the opening of the tenders. ; FOBEBHOBE LANDS fOB EAILWAY PUBPOSE3. A letter was received from the Government, stating it was not the intention to close up the continuations of Albert street and Cochrane street on the foreshore, for railway purposes. The letter was in reply to a request from the Board that certain portions of the foreshprd be not taken for railway purposes. v ; Mr Bagnall suggested that they; should protest against so much land being taken and tied up. He believed they had been committed to it however by' action un: authorised by the Board. He believed there had been underhand Work also in the granting of the ship-building allot? ments next the Burke street wbarfl Where he had been shewn the ailo'ments on the plan, they had been marked as.ne.ir the Mbanatairi battery. He woitfd oppose the granting of the allotments by every legal means. . * i
The Mayor r Mr Bagnall, I thick you had bettex withdraw the term underhand. There is nothing to show such action has been taken,' and thefßoard have not yet leased those allotments. \ : Mr a ßead thought, the Board [should make a protest against the Government taking so much land, which wbulct' b|> of value to them. ; " , , The Mayor strongly urged the Board to take no action in the matter, as it might retard the railway works. They could get compensation as well ten years hence as at present. The discussion then lapsed. bye-laws. *
