It is understood that Mr E. H. Beere has entered an action against Mr Czerwonka for a thousand pounds damages. This case has arisen out of one brought by Mr Czerwonka against Mr Beere for alleged embezzlement.

The Hermione sails for London today. The Times states that the Government have been unsuccessful in their endeavour to purchase Native lands on the West Coast railway route. It appears that the Natives, thinking the land is required, demand a longer price than they otherwise would. The Ministry have promised to give every assistance possible towards making the demonstration on the arrival of the new Governor a complete success. The cargo of the Hermione consists of 5595 bales wool, 40 bales skins, 115 casks tallow^ 120 cases paint, and a large lot of sundries, which altogether comprise the largest cargo which has left Wellington this season. The following tenders have been received for the inland and coastal routes of the Waitakeri and Waimate contracts :— Kaipara Puniu Railway, Waitakeri contract.—Accepted: Taylor and Donoghue (Auckland), £36,601.
