The s.s. Garonne Aground. . Adbwide, Thursday. The Orient Company's steamer Garonne, homeward bound, has gone aground on Tapley's shoal, four hours steaming distance from here. She is not at present in any apparent danger. Sydney, March' 19. Sir Hercules Robinson departed to-day for New Zealand in Her Majesty's corvette Emerald, accompanied by Commodore Wilson,in Her Majesty's ship Wolverine. Prior to his departure his Excellency held a farewell ball, which was attended by a large number of persons. Farewell addresses from both Houses of Parliament were presented to him. Sir Alfred Stephen assumes the position of Lieut.-Governor to-morrow. Thousands were present to witness Governor Robinson's departure. March 18. Signor d'Alberti's account of .New Guinea has raised a strong feeling in Italy in favor of colonisation. Menotti Garibaldi, with 3000 Italians, will leave Italy in time to reach New Guinea in the autumn, for the purpose of establishing a colony there. This day. Intelligence has been received that all the native teachers on the north-east
coast of New Guiuea have been murdered by the natives, except five who have escaped.
