The balance of the legacy duty to be paid on the late Captain Ehoies' estate is ten thousand pounds, not one thousand.
The Chronicle to-night says Major Atkinson has been shelved as leader of the Opposition, and his place filled by the Hon. John Hall, supported by Mr Stevens.
An attempt is being made to forma Naval Brigade.
The s.s. Wakatipu has just arrived from Sydney, having left on 26th. Capt. Wheeler was presented with an address and a purse of sovereigns by the passengers.
Walkley's Hotel was openly robbed of sixty sovereigns in a box this afternoon. Three men were in the bar at the time it must have been done.
