MOANATAIRI.
During the past week Rood progress has been made in driving in the tunnel, and a lode two feet thick has been intersected, but, boweyer, it does not look anything great. It is nearly all crystallised quartz and mullock.. The appearance of the country is much improved. Some leaders of quartz are making in the Point Russell drive. The winze which the manager is sinking on No. 2 reef to connect the 150 feet and bottom levels, is making fair progress, and the lode in bottom has a healthy appearance. The reef has not yet been picked up in the bottom level, so it is probable that it has a greater underlie
between the two levels than was supposed. The manager's weekly report was as follows :—Point .Russell section.—The drive has been extended 21 feet through broken and slidy country, and leaders of quartz are now making in face and the country is tighter. Main tunnel has been extended 24 feet this week. Since resuming work there has been a wall of quartz striking nearjy parallel with the level. This is now making into a reef two feet thick—eight inches of which are crystallised quartz, and the other part a mixture of mullock, Although the reef has not a healthy appearance the country looks better for gold-bearing* than for some time past. 218 feet level.—We have not yet succeeded in picking up reef in drive south on seaward side of slide. From the distance now driven I think the reef must have taken a greater underlie south. '1 he winze sinking in No. 9 reef below 150 feet level is down 40 feet carrying a Btrong healthy lode 2\ feet tiiick dipping south. A few more feet sinking will intersect slide which we will then follow down carrying the point of the reef. During past fortnight 250 tons of quartz has been crushed for a yield of 1460zs retorted gold,—l am, yours, etc., Kobt. Comee.
Besides the company the only party crushing at the company's mill is James and party, of the Poiut ftussell section, who have about 40 tsns going through. It is showing up for a poor yield.
