Theatre Royal.

The last performance of the Gem Burlesque and Comedy Company took place at the Theatre Royal on Saturday evening, being for the benefit of Mr Hydes. There was an overflowing house, and the comic pantomime "Snow White" followed by a Harlequinade was placed on the boards. We have already given a description of this piece, so suffice to say that the acting of the beneficiare in the part of Ozokerit the Scandalous was most amusing, and his hits and puns were all appreciated. Among the songs sang during the evening were "Larrikins of Grahamstowu," a pretty parody on " Woodbine Twineth " called " Where the Supple Jack entwineth" by Miss Amy Johns, "The Waitara Meeting " by Miss Alice Johns. A considerable portion of the music of the piece is borrowed from " Girofle Girofla " and " Chilperic." During the interval Mr Hydes came before the drop scene, and in a humorous speech thanked the audience and the Thames public for the kind patronage which bad been extended to him- He also thanked the Press for their kind criticisms.

Gallant Captain.—A lady with an unmusical voice insisted upon singing at a party.—"What does she call that?" inquired a^ guest.— " ■' The Tempest,' I thiuk," answered another.—" Don't be alarmed," said an old sea-captain present. "That's no tempest; it is only a iquall, and will soon be over."
