WELLINGTON.
Tuesday. Seven tenders have been received for the Auckland wharf railway reclamation for the Queen street railway station. The lowest has been accepted, subject to the usual conditions. The successful tenderer is an Auckland man, but his name and the amount of his tender are not obtainable at present. A deputation from the City Council, accompanied by a large number of leading merchants, waited on Ministers (Colonel Whitmore and Mr Fisher) this morning urging the Government to reconsider their intention of fixing the railway station near the Government Buildings. The whole question was again fully discussed. Col. Whitmore promised to telegraph to Mr Macandrew, and that a definite decision should be arrived at before the day fixed for the sale of the reclaimed land. Arrived: Jane, from Eaipara.
