This day.

A review is now going on at Forbury Park, and it is estimated there are about two thousand men oh the ground. The Horn. Colonel Whitmore and J. Sheehan are present, and will be entertained at a banquet to-night by the officers. Friday. The Hon. the Native Minister and the Colonial Secretary will arrive in Dunedin to-night by special train. It has befen^ decided that the twelve highest scores in the Otago Rifle Association matches shall form a team to com* pete against Canterbury. A meeting of the Portobello Tramway Committee was held this evening, and an interim report submitted. It showed that the cost of the undertaking woald be £20,000. Its consideration was postponed for further information.

The tender of W. A. Mills of £3048 has been accepted for the erection of a new Lunatic Asylum at Blueskin. The building is to be completed in four months. A requisition signed by 165 ratepayers was presented to Mr Beeves, asking him to stand for the mayoralty. In effect, he replied that when defeated for the General Assembly he promised to retire from political life, and would adhere to that at present. Dunedin has quite a military air this evening, and a large number of Volunteers have arrived from North and South and the country districts for the review tomorrow, which promises to be a success.
