Theatre Royal.

The Star Company gave their first performance at the Theatre Royal last night. The bill was a big one, comprising " The Daughter of the Begimerit" and the bur* lesque of " Willikynd and Hys Dinah." The first piece was rather a bold attempt, but the several members of the corps dramatique acquitted themselves respectably, some of them most creditably, rendering the incidental music very fairly. Miss Baby D'Arcy sang in good style the song " See how it sparkles," and on being 1 encored gave "Kathleen Mavourneen." The lady has a fine voice, and will do much better after a longer acquaintance | with the stage. The burlesque was given with spirit, and, as it bristles with puns, and songs and dances follow each other in rapid succession, it pleased the audience. Some members of the company would have contributed to make the performance much more enjoyable bad they shown a more perfect acquaintance with their parts, for it is not pleasant to hear one sentence repeated three times in as many minates before somebody picks up the cue and allows the action to proceed. The same programme as last night will be given this evening, and we shall defer any further notice until after the second representation, when possibly the draw* back we have pointed out will not be so apparent. We may say that the performance is one that should take well here, as .from what we. saw last night, and the good impression made by the company, they are capable of producing .comedy and burlesque in a creditable manner. There are several old favorites amongst the company, whone efforts to please have been always appreciated in the past. Mr Clinton, stage manager, informed the audience last night that the stay of the company this time would be limited to eight nights, but that if inducement offered they would return at Christmas and produce a gorgeous Christmas panto* mime, a statement that was received with cheers.
