RESIDENT MAGISTRATE'S COURT

THIS DAY. (Before W. Fraser, Esq., E.M.) DBUNK AND DIBOBDEBLT.

William Seagar was charged with the above offence \p Davy street, on the 6th. Defendant pleaded not guilty. Andrew Otto, sworn, deposed — I know the defendant. He resides close to me. On th« evening of the 6th inst. I heard a disturbance in the street. I went out and saw defendant drunk, pulling his wife about the footpath. By defendant: Your wife called to me to help, and I went over, and you let go your wife and turned round on me. Constable PooJe, sworn, deposed—l was on duty in Grahamstown on the 6th, and in consequence of information received I went to SeagarV place and ques* tioned him about the disturbance: He was drunk, and asked me "what the ——- —— was it to do with you." Fined 20s and costs. WIFX BBATIN*.

having unlawfully assaulted his wife Ellen Seagar. Defendant pleaded not guilty. Ellen Seagar, sworn, deposed—l am the wife of defendant. On the evening of the sixth he was a little the worse of liquor, and I went out of the house. He pulled me about a little. ' Mr Bullen said as Mrs Seagar evidently didn't wish to press the charge he would ask permission to withdraw it. His Worship permitted the withdrawal of the charge.

Court adjourned.
