The Town' Clerk said, that as soon as; the work was completed' what Mr' Mai gr;ro required would be attended to; KAWA KAWA CBMETEBY. / ' A letter was read from the trustees of the Kawa 'Kawa (Bay of Islands) ceme-j tery* asking information re the manage. ment of the Thames cemeteries, with a view to placing the Kawa Kawa cemetery on the same footing as other cemeteries, > The Town Clerk stated that the re* 1 quired information had beeh'sent.'. 1 ' * > ' TREES Off THE feTBEET. [ A letter was read from the > officer in; charge of the Telegraph Station, stating that in many places the trees planted in! the streets touched the telegraph wires,; which interfered with the electric current,' especially in wet weather, and asking! that something be done.-to dear the wjrei of the branches. ■ > - , . - Cr Price moved that the Foreman of Works be instructed to trim the trees as required. Carried.

A letter,., was read from Mr J. .Grant, asking that something; be done to fill up a puddle near his residence. „, It was £ decided to reply to the writer to the effect: that the straightening of the Earaka; Creek would remedy the nuisance complained of. "•• ' ' THE BOAD METAL. A letter was read from Mr A. Aitken, stating that he had examined the different kinds of road metal, and was of opinion that the beach metal was the best, and the Karaka stone would be more affected by. exposure to westhisf than that from Tararu. (Mr Macfarland's report on the. same matter, read at last meeting, was to a similar effect.). Received. A letter was read from Messrs Hart and Horn, stating that they had not received a reply as to whether the Council would take ,1 heir road metal or not. i The Town Clerk said that Hart and | Horn asked the same price for their metal as was paid for the beach metal. ' Cr Graham said that as the beach metal was superior, and as they could get it at the same price, he thought they, should leave Messrs Hart and Horn's metal alone. money), on the improvement of the recreation ground was read as follows :—
The Committee hare to report that they recommend notice being at once sent to Mr Murdoch to fence that side of tbe land be, by his undertaking given to the Counc/', has contracted to fence whenever cailci upon to io bo, and ■ that notices to fence be sorvr 3 upon all owners of property adjoining the Recreation Ground. That upon the time given in such notices to fence expiring, tenders bo called by the Council for fencing with a poßt and four rails (or a fence equivalent thereto) all the remaining portion of the land. That the'bK«lance of the £100, if any, be expended in cutting done the Ci-tree and fern about February next, burning it off and sowing the land with grass seed, the land to be afterwards let for grazing purposes for a terra not exceeding three yeara.—Jahks Kn> GOtTB, Chairman.—Tbpmes, Oct. 24th, 1878. Sir, —I have the honour to report, for the information of your Worship and the Bororfgh Council, that the inquiry into certain charges made by Jtno against Messrs F. Hewin and Brother, late contractors for rations t» the sick and destitute persons at the Thiimef, was concluded in Auckland en Tuesday afternoon. Ti>e following persons' gay* evidence in support of the charge on behalf of the Believing Officer : --Mr B. Bullen (Sub-Inspector), Mr J. Cochrane, Mr.Marse, Mr Forrester, Mr J. B. Mason, Mrs Urquart, Mrs,Kirby, Mra Bulliven, Mrs Bobertson, Mrs Scanlin, Mrs MoGervy, Mrs Connelly, Mrs Thrupp, and that tbe evidence,fully i(upnorted tbe ohaiges.
