Thames Harbor Board.
A special meeting of this' body wasj held at the- Borough Council Chambers \ yesterday afternoon. Present—The Chair- j man, Messrs Gibbons, Spencer, Mennie,, and the Mayor. /,, •' ; The, Chairman stated thai the meeting: was held for the purpose of appointing a! successor to Mr C. H. J. Hill, toll-collec-• tor on the Burke-street Wharf, he having | sent in his resignatoop. > •.■,.,' - . ! The Secretary read the letter of resignation -from Mr Hill, and a resolution was passed- expressing the appreciation of the past services of Mi'- JHill" by 'the, Board. v ' ' TBe 'Chairman' stated that he had, received several applications for the office of toll collector. He thought the best way would be to rent the toll collection on the wharf. After considerable" discussion had ensued, "• Mr Spsncer moved that tenders be called for collecting the Burke street wharf tolls for a period of six months. Mr Gibbon's JSeoonded 1. He thought the whole width should be filled in as they went along; . < Mr Gibbons pointed out that they' had not sufficient funds at.their disposal to fill in the whole width, and the -present mode of depositing the stuff effectually retained the silt on that side.
